Day 8 -- Winnemucca to Battle Mountain -- 56 Miles

Recovery ride today. Thankfully, the winds were not howling in our face. In fact, we finally had a slight wind at our back for most of the ride. I spent most of my day riding with Phil and Ken, and we were moving. Our first leg to the SAG stop (about 25 miles) went pretty fast, except for the last 4 miles where we climbed to Golconda Summit – an elevation of 5,159 feet.

Phil, Ken, and I quickly departed the SAG stop and hammered out the last 30 miles. We were flying! It was nice to ride at a nice clip and simultaneously hear myself think. It was even nicer to check into the hotel in Battle Mountain just after 10:15am.

Since we rode pretty quickly, I don’t have many photos of the day, but I welcome you to check out the limited few that I did take. In case you are wondering, Battle Mountain does not have much to offer, as it was once designated as the "armpit of America." That said, I am extremely thankful for the Laundromat across the street from the hotel. I feel like a new (cleaner) man.

Pedaling to Elko, Nevada tomorrow (about 75 miles), and hoping for some favorable conditions once again.
