I spent the day riding solo, and it was one of those days that I just had to grind out. One thing that helped me was knowing that, at the end of the ride, there would be an ice cold, chocolate milkshake from Braum's with my name on it. It was delicious.
Because we only had 64 miles (yeah, when I start saying "only 64 miles", it becomes obvious that we are riding alot), we were able to get into the hotel relatively early. I spent some extra time cleaning my bike, and now I am just relaxing until route rap and dinner. Life is good!

26 days down...26 to go!
ReplyDeleteyay half way! you can do it!
ReplyDeleteJohnny: As you face the tedium of a left and a right and some pedaling in between; and, for some reason, 64 miles seems more challenging and more of a grind than the rides that were twice that length, you are facing a different challenge. Ponder this:
ReplyDelete"I expect to pass through this world but once.
Any good, therefore, that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now.
Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again."

(i.e., I've never returned to Tucumcari, NM; Las Vegas, NM; Grant or Gallup NM; McPherson, Topeka, or Great Bend, KS; Chillicothe, MO; etc. etc. However, I'm glad I took the time to see these places and we made it fun. It's the old, "been there, done that.")
Remember, it's not the destination, it's the journey (and its accompanying memories)!
Focusing on things such as a milkshake waiting for you at the end of a ride may seem trivial, but it works. It's about mental toughness! (Of course, the drink of choice I focused on was more of the amber colored variety! Rest assured that it was equally cold as that milkshake.)
Travel safe! Love ya. D
